Michael Vick, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons and the Federal Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas, is back and is seemingly taking all the steps he needs to successfully rehabilitate his image after his arrest for running a dog ring that saw many dogs put to death. Its obvious Vick has gotten some superb reputation management advice as it evidenced by his recent appearance on 60 minutes. It was during this interview that Vick answered 'I am sorry' to just about half the questions asked of him by interviewer James Brown. If asked, he probably would have said he was sorry for the latest troubles surrounding our president and his health care reform bill.

One of the lingering effects of the continuing economic crisis is the overwhelming number of spam e-mails one receives from these lead generation companies. Don't you know all you need to do is hire one of these firms, and in a matter of moments you will have more qualified leads than you can imagine. These companies have been around for years and they all sell the same thing – we develop a targeted list, make phone calls on your behalf and Whamo! – you've got a qualified lead. There, of course, is the real issue – the difference between a real qualified lead and someone agreeing to meet with you.

I was traveling when all the politicians from New Jersey were arrested and did the perp walk on national television. For years, New Jersey has been best known as the most corrupt state when it comes to politics and recent developments have only reinforced this disastrous image for a State that has long been the stepchild to New York and has endured years of a negative image. Even the football Giants and Jets are called "New York" despite the fact that they have played their home games in East Rutherford, New Jersey for more than three decades.

For those of us New York Met Fans here in New York; it's obviously going to be a very long summer. If collapsing in each of the last two seasons in late summer after having lead in their division wasn't bad enough, we're not even at the trading deadline, and they are officially dead. Worse yet, we've got to listen to these Yankee fans rant and rave about being in first place.

So we've had a client in visiting with us for several weeks and through various conversations he has shared some interesting insight into the experience so far. He's here in New York with his family on a business/vacation trip, spending weekdays traveling to conduct media interviews and returning to do some sightseeing with his wife and three kids on weekends.

I don't think anybody should be shocked to learn of yet another high profile politician getting caught in an extramarital affair. This time its Republican wonder boy and current South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford. Just last month I was reading in one of the news weeklies how Sanford, a bible toting conservative who boasts about family values, was a rising star and even an early favorite to capture the Republican nomination for President in 2012. Forget that, these days he'll be lucky to hold onto his current day job as Governor.

Like everyone else I was saddened to hear not only of the death of Farah Fawcett, but of course, the unexpected passing of Michael Jackson. I remember sitting in one of the last rows at Giants Stadium in 1984 and seeing the King of Pop perform during his Victory Tour (at least that's what I think it was called). I was just running into a Board meeting on Thursday night when I heard of the passing of Jackson, and while shock may have been my first thought, what followed was truly a case of being in the public relations business for almost thirty years.

I learned of an interesting job description from a friend of mine who runs a small consultancy here in New York City. While her business is principally focused on helping small companies and startups design and developed an online strategy for their business, she was recently offered a consulting job by a client who had something else in mind. In the truest sense of the term, he told her that he wanted to offer her the job of "Bullshit Detector". Yes, that's exactly how he referred to the job, and you know what, I love it.

It has been just about a week since two prominent New York State Democrats unleashed a coup on the New York State Senate by switching sides and voting for the Republications to regain control of the Senate in New York. It seems as though these two politicians, Hiram Monserrate of Queens and Pedro Espada Jr. of the Bronx, finally had enough of the majority leader Malcolm Smith, who too, is a Democrat. This "As the World Turns in Albany" saga continues as the latest news is that Monserrate has now, after much pressure, switched sides again and will be voting Democratic. It, however, is not the politics of this situation that makes write about these two curious politicians, but rather what they were doing on Saturday while this political saga was still very much unfolding.

In these days of declining marketing and communications budgets, we are seeing fewer and fewer public relations stunts to support consumer products. Over the course of the last three decades or so, high impact, creative public relations stunts drove the business -- and certainly won all the awards. I'm not saying it's totally dead, but certainly harder to find ones that are truly creative and work.
